Jane Shiwak sews sealskin crafts at her kitchen table in Rigolet, Labrador, Canada in March, 2018. Ms. Shiwak spent five years at the Lockwood School as a child, where she says she was beaten regularly. While some residential-school survivors turned to alcohol or drugs, Ms. Shiwak says her therapy has been her traditional craftwork, which provides a small income and allows her to continue a tradition passed down by her mother.
