Thom Drew, the former assistant keeper of the Mosher Island lighthouse, milks one of his goats on the island.
The Drews say they were just âcity kidsâ when they moved to Mosher Island and had to learn the hard way how to adjust to island life. But Mr. Drew, a former mechanic for the American military raised in Massachusetts, was handy and knew carpentry. Ms. Drew, a Dartmouth-raised veterinarian, understood animals and how to run a subsistence farm.
âItâs hard work, but it doesnât feel like it. It feels like a good way of life,â he said.
